A number of rivers flow through the region, the main ones being the Valira, the Madriu, and Valira del Nord and Valira d'Orient, the latter two joining to form Gran Valira at Escaldes-Engordany.
There are also lakes in the Valira d'Orient basin and Valira del Nord basin. Most of them are rounded and fairly small, although the largest covers an area of 72 acres. The Pessons, Gargantillar and Tristaina are among the country's other lakes.
