Salta

Salta Salta Situated at an altitude of 1,200 metres, Salta remains the biggest city in northwestern Argentina. Vladimira Dvorakova / age fotostock;

Salta, in the north-east of the country, is the gateway to Bolivia and the Andes, which are very close. This is a small town with colonial buildings and small squares. The covered market offers an abundance of tropical fruits, alpaca blankets, Indian craftwork, spices and coca leaves.
