The mountains

Armenia has superb Caucasian landscapes. Consisting mostly of mountains, the country has an average altitude of 2,950 feet. You will see high mountain landscapes there with snowy peaks. The highest point is Mount Aragats Lerr, 13,435 feet high. The mountain slopes are often arid, but run steeply down towards lush and more welcoming valleys. In winter, the country is covered in snow. The view of Mount Ararat (the refuge of Noah's Ark) from the monastery of Khor Virap remains one of the strongest images of Armenia, although this mythical mountain that looms over the capital Erevan at 16,400 feet is technically located on the Turkish side of the border.
