On New Providence, the Atlantis and Ocean Club are two hotels worth going to. The first is completely excessive and rather kitsch. Its decoration is based on the theme of the myth of Atlantis, 8 restaurants serving up some of the best cuisine in the Caribbean, an aquarium with 9.6 million gallons of water, 55,000 sea animals, and a vast theme park (Box N4777, Nassau. Tel: 242 363 3000). The second has a refined and tranquil setting: 49 rooms, 5 villas and 4 suites, 3 restaurants, 3 bars, a swimming pool, an 18-hole golf course, a superb beach and a 'Versailles garden' of 35 acres adjacent to a real French cloister dating from the 14th century (transported here). As this hotel is not within reach for all budgets, you can always treat yourself to the excellent cuisine of the very romantic Courtyard Terrace Restaurant (Box N4777, Ocean Club Drive, Nassau.
