Muharraq, on the island of the same name, is joined to Bahrain by backfill on the sea. The souk maintains its booths, wrought iron bars and balconies painted green. Sheikh Isa's house, a real palace in the town, was restored in 1976. In a different style, the house of the merchant Beit Siyadi, a few minutes away from the souk, is unique for its decoration in stuccoed friezes and its wooden panelling on the ceilings. The Rashid Al-Oraifi Museum holds a beautiful collection of objects connected to the daily life of the Bahraini merchants.
