In the last 30 years, Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, has undergone a population explosion: it has gone from one to eight million inhabitants. It is one of the most populated cities in the world. The megalopolis has hundreds of thousands of "rickshaws" (bicycle taxis) in the middle of intense traffic. In Old Dhaka, the Pink Palace, dating from 1872, is one of the most interesting buildings (it was restored after a tornado). This museum tells the history of the country through the rajahs, the ruling classes, and has some remarkable paintings. It has a pretty view of the river Buriganga. It is worth taking a detour along Shankharia-Bazar street. You walk along a thoroughfare bordered by old houses sheltering an incalculable number of craftsmen, notably those who manufacture shell bracelets.
