The ruins of the Buddhist Vihara of Paharpur

Known by the name of Somapura Mahvira, "the big monastery", this site was an important intellectual centre until the 12th century. This town-monastery influenced buddhist architecture through the simplicity and harmony of its lines and its decoration. Classified by the UNESCO in 1985, this site is a unique artistic creation.
