The old residences

The old residences Barbados residences, the Caribbean Government House is the name of many of the residences of Governors-General, Governors and Lieutenant-Governors in the Commonwealth and the remaining colonies of the British Empire © O.T. Barbade

Francia Plantation is a mansion that is decorated with period furniture and old maps in the centre of the island inside a park. Towards the eastern coast, Villa Nova, a planter's home, dates from 1830. Note its walls in coralline stone, its shutters, verandas and gardens. The north-east of the island conserves the last example of a Dutch mill: the Morgan Lewis Mill. Saint-Nicholas Abbey holds one of the oldest estates in Barbados, used until the 30s, with a mansion built in 1663. Also see: Sunbury House on the southern coast which dates from 1660 and marks the beginning of the extensive cultivation of the sugar cane.
