Ambergis Cay, Belize Ambergris Caye is the largest island in Belize, and the main destination for travellers to this western Caribbean nation. Vladimira Dvorakova / age fotostock;
Ambergris Cay is the largest of the islands in the lagoon. It stretches over 25 miles to the north of Caulker Cay. You arrive (by boat or plane) on the southern point, near to San Pedro. This fishing village resembles its cousins in the Caribbean, with its painted wooden houses and sand-covered streets. The beaches are very beautiful and the hotels have equipment for water sports. From Ambergris Cay, you can also organise a dive in the Blue Hole. You descend 131 feet in a natural well of intense blue, whose walls you explore with the aid of torches.
