Half Moon Cay is an ornithological reserve home to 98 species, including the magnificent frigate birds and red-footed boobies. Turtles also come to lay their eggs on the island's beaches from June to August. The loggerhead sea turtles are recognisable from their shell in the form of a heart for which they are still hunted, despite protection measures.
