Benin is in an intertropical zone and therefore has a hot tropical climate. The seasons change with the winds. From May to October, the monsoon wind from the south-west brings abundant rain. From November to April, the harmattan (a dry wind from the Sahara) blows over the whole country with variations between the north and south.
Whatever the season, it has an average of 30°C with frequent peaks at 40°C in the north when the harmattan blows. The best season for discovering Benin is the long dry season from November to April.
