Cotonou

Etymologically, Cotonou means "death lagoon". Its origin is connected to the slave trade. It is an administrative capital and the largest town in the country (700,000 inhabitants). It does not have any real tourist attraction, but a distinct atmosphere. Do not miss the Dantokpa market, in the Jonquet district, or the craftwork centre.
