Ganvié

11 miles to the north of Cotonou, Ganvié is the largest lakeside city in Africa. You get there in a pinasse (local vessel). Its inhabitants live in houses built on piles in the middle of the lake. Note their fishing techniques, and the women who go to market with their cargo in their boats, and discover the surrounding lakeside villages.
