The Bolivians are Catholic, however, their religion is strongly affected by traditional Indian beliefs, such as the adoration of the Sun, Moon, and Earth. Mother Earth, the Pachamama, who represents fertility and prosperity in general, is the subject of celebrations all year round. The most spectacular ceremonies take place at the end of the month of January, and during the February carnival.
