Unlike its name, Road Town, the capital city located on Tortola Island, has retained its scenic charm. Main Street, next to the seafront, has some lovely brick and wooden houses, all painted in different colours. There are a few cultural ?musts' in the city, including the lovely Indian-style building which hosts the small Folklore Museum and the Botanical Gardens. The tranquility of the latter allows you to escape into a natural environment and discover a host of different plants and tropical flowers. Orchid lovers will really enjoy it! Road Town can also be proud of being the only town on the archipelago, the rest of the islands are solely composed of villages. For the most curious visitors, go to the Seashell and Sea Museum in Carriot Bay in the north of Tortola, there are not only different kinds of boats, but hundreds of different seashell species.
