The country has around 3,200 varieties of plants. Some species have completely disappeared in Europe, but are still classified in Bulgaria. More than a quarter of the territory is covered by forest, consisting of oaks on the plains, and conifers on the mountains. However, the main pride of the Bulgarians are the flowers, particularly the roses. There are different species. A rose festival is organised in the month of June in the valley of the same name, near to the town of Kazanlak.
