The most famous city in Alberta is Calgary, which held the Winter Olympic Games in 1988. Like many large metropolises in North America, Calgary mingles skyscrapers with historical buildings and immense green spaces. The footpaths of the parks beside the river Bow lead visitors across the city. The Calgary Tower provides a magnificent panorama of the city or, to the west, of the snowy tips of the Rocky Mountains. To prolong the view, a trip in a hot-air balloon, a city classic, guarantees a fabulous spectacle. Calmer, but just as exciting, the Glenbow museum retraces the history of the country's pioneers. The Stampede, a famous rodeo, livens up and arouses the city in the first two weeks of July.
