Vancouver Island Vancouver Island is one of the best places in Canada to holiday for surf and snowboarding. © Eric Debray
The south of Vancouver island, which extends more than 300 miles along the western coast, is opposite the Olympic mountains in the state of Washington in the United States. The sea has created profound and big fjords on the western part of the island, while the eastern coast allowed the towns and villages to develop there. There are various diving sites around the island with shipwrecks and artificial coral reefs that will delight enthusiasts, particularly in the area of Nanaimo. The beaches of the Pacific Rim national park are famous for their beauty, peacefulness, and their possibilities for seaside leisure: everything is organised for surfing. Willows Beach and Cadboro Bay Beach, near Victoria, are more like sandy beaches and, with their calm waters, are ideal for families.
