 Climate and Seasons

Chile is in the Southern hemisphere, so it goes into its winter when we are beginning our summer. It has four seasons. The climatic changes of this country are extreme. The influence of the Andes Cordillera close by allows you to go from a sunny beach to snowy peaks in less than two hours. The north, between Arica and Antofagasta, is a large arid desert, where it is very hot in summer (to 45°C in the middle of the Atacama Desert) and mild all winter (between 14 and 25°C). In the region of Santiago, the climate is Mediterranean, temperatures reaching 28°C in January and February and 10°C in July and August. The summers are dry and the winter can be rainy. In the great south, the climate is polar in winter and cool all summer. It rains there all year, however this does not prevent a lot of sunshine. The water off the Chilean coasts is not famous for its warmth. Even in the middle of summer, the cool currents in the north allow it to barely reach 20°C.
