The flora on the island is fairly limited in particular due to the wind and the devastation caused by the sheep introduced to the territory in the 19th century. However, some eucalyptus and coconut tree plants were reintroduced in the 1960s. They are mostly located in Poike, Rano Kau or in the centre of the island. People also grow bananas, oranges, lemons, pineapples, as well as peaches.
