Roughly, the Yangtze River divides the country into two, horizontally; above the Tibet-Shanghai line, the weather is continental - very hot in summer, and very cold, dry and sunny in winter. In general, the best seasons to visit are spring and autumn.
In Beijing, the coldest month is January, with an average of -5°C. The summer is torrid until the rainy season, from mid-July to end August. The temperature is an average of 20°C in spring (May), a very dry period with sandy winds, but very good for visiting the region. It reaches around 15°C from April to October.
Each year, between the months of July and September, the south coast of China is afflicted by an average of ten typhoons, distinguished by strong winds and heavy rainfall.
