The White Horse Temple, located 8 miles to the east of Luoyang, was the first Buddhist temple founded in China in the 1st century. The monastery is still active and the place exudes tranquility. In the entrance, a stele retraces its history. Most of the buildings you see today date from the time of the Ming dynasty, and only a few ruins remain from the time of the Han. There are different rooms to be discovered, including the Great Buddha room, which holds several statues and an enormous bell whose sound can be heard several miles away.
