In the North, the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta is a mountain range that is 6,240 miles². Scarcely 30 miles separate these snowy mountain tops (the highest is 19,025 feet) from the turquoise waters of the Caribbean. On the other side, the traveller discovers the luxuriant valleys where Indian tribes live. In the rockiest part, transparent lakes shine at the bottom of impressive corries.
