Volcanic relief covered in coconut trees and turquoise water speckled with dozens of ?galawas' (small vessels used by Comorian fishermen); these are the first images that you will have of the place when you arrive at Grande Comore airport and they are a preview of the scenery in the rest of the archipelago. The vegetation is so thick and luxuriant that any excursion inland rapidly becomes an expedition into virgin territory.
