Although bigger than Mutsamudu and Fomboni, the capital of Moroni is the size of a ?pocket handkerchief'. As a prelude to your exploration of this town, which used to trade with Zanzibar, go and visit its impressive port, where you will see a multitude of wooden boats on the sand at low tide, and pass by its emblematic Friday Mosque (15th century), whose immaculate whiteness illuminates this sleepy city. Then take a look round the little market and bazaar before loosing yourself in the labyrinth of small streets in the Arab district. Finally, it is worth visiting the Comoros Museum, not only because it boasts fascinating accounts of the archipelago's history, but it is also home to a coelacantha fish specimen which was captured in 1985 off Anjouan.
