The second largest city in Cuba, Santiago is the cultural and political rival to Havana. The Centro area has one of the most beautiful squares in Cuba, the Parque Cespedes, with the cathedral and the house of Diego Velazquez. You can listen to the Santiago singers at the Casa de la Trova and visit the Carnival Museum, that actually takes place in July. Nine miles from Santiago, the basilica Nuestra Señora of the Caridad del Cobre is the biggest pilgrimage site in Cuba.
