Limassol is the second largest city in Cyprus after the capital Nicosia, and the biggest town on the southern coast! Also known as Lemesos (in Greek), the city is Cyprus' main port, the trading hub of the island, and a famous seaside resort. The coast is lined with luxury hotels in the region of Amathus, which is a kind of touristy outgrowth of the city which extends eastwards. The seafront and the medieval fort provide the main touristic attractions of this lively place. Limassol is also well-known for its carnival and its wine festival, which takes place during the first week of September.
