Built in the 18th century by the Ottomans, on the shores of Larnaca's saltwater lake, the mosque of Hala Sultan Tekke is the most sacred Muslim site in Cyprus. It was built on the tomb of Umm Haram, on the spot where one of the earliest disciples of Muhammad fell from her mule and died in 649. The famous burial site now occupies a small room concealed behind green draping at the far end of the prayer room.
The site is peaceful and makes for a lovely walk from Larnaca.
