Prague Charles Bridge links the Old Town to the Castle. Vladimira Dvorakova / age fotostock;
Nicknamed the city of a hundred towers, Prague is wrapped in a mysterious and romantic atmosphere. There are four tourist areas. The Old City, a Unesco World Heritage Site with its superb central square, a true theatre decor with rich mansions, Saint Nicholas's church, a baroque master piece, the city hall's astronomical clock, the spires of Our Lady before Tyn, Ungelt's narrow streets and Renaissance-style houses, Celetna street's luxury boutiques, the 1900 style Municipal House that is home to the Prague Manifesto. A baroque district, Prague's Lesser Side boasts Charles Bridge, the poetic emblem of Prague, beautiful Mala Strana Square, the extremely baroque Saint Nicholas's church, and the city's most beautiful gardens. The castle, a gigantic palace perched on a hill is surrounded by a bucolic area; this building, which inspired Kafka, is the country's political and spiritual symbol. President Havel has his office there. Allow enough time to visit it all: the castle's courtyards, Saint Guy's cathedral, Saint George's basilica and the old Royal Palace. Actually, since the 19th century, the New City has been the business district, with a 1900s-style Venceslas square, beautiful Secession buildings and intellectual cafés.
