Odense's history is rich in Norse mythology, as even the city's name means 'Odin's sanctuary'. Home town of the famous poet Hans Christian Andersen, it has dedicated a whole area to the writer, made of small houses painted in bright colours and of a museum where you can see his most important manuscripts. The city also has also preserved its religious influences from the Middle Ages, of which the famous St. Knud's Cathedral is the jewel. The city is also home to a museum dedicated to the ancestral traditions of the country.
