The island of Zealand, or Sjælland in Danish High cliffs and white sand beaches await visitors in Zealand, Denmark's largest island. Roland Gerth / age fotostock
Zealand is the largest island of the Danish archipelago. It is linked to Kattegat in the north and to the Baltic Sea in the south. The capital, Copenhagen, is not the only interest of the region. To the north, along beautiful beaches, is the imposing kings' domain. The old stones, the historical sites and the houses covered with sand make this region so rich. The town of Roskilde, to the west, is the capital of Viking archaeology. The Viking's boat museum near the port and the cathedral, where no less than 20 kings and 17 queens are buried, must be visited. To the south, the impressive cliffs and the traditional thatched roof villages are part of the charms of Zealand. In addition to this, there are numerous castles in the region such as Konborg at Helsingor, where Shakespeare set the stage for Hamlet, and the Frederiksbourg Castle in Hillerod.
