PaintingLively, colourful Naive paintings can be seen everywhere, not just in galleries but also on the street © Ludovic Maisant
Although the country's sunshine is plentiful, but the same cannot be said about its culture. Although the Dominicans are not an artistic lot, you will find numerous stalls selling Haitians' brightly coloured paintings of a naive style - the only thing is that the paintings tend to all look the same despite being sold at different stands.
The Dominican Republic cannot be considered a cultural destination, although Bachata and Merengue music is very important throughout the country.
