Lined with palm trees, the main beach of the small fishermen's village of Bayahibe, a sand crescent stretching over more than 7 miles is absolutely marvellous. In the heart of the dry tropical forest region, where cacti grow, this beach has not been spared the hustle and bustle of tourism. Its turquoise water is now used as a point of departure of cruises, in particular morning trips to Saona Island. If you are interested, numerous fishing and sail boats are anchored in the bay. As for swimmers, beware of rays which enjoy swimming here, though this is often much to the delight of scuba-divers.
