Located some 11 mi east of Sosua on the north coast, also referred to as the 'Amber Coast', Carbarete is a paradise for surfers, kite-surfers, windsurfers, and enthusiasts of all kinds of board sports. With some 2.5 mi of beach lined with coconut trees, it's no surprise that this is one the best listed sites in the world, not least because of the strong, steady winds and large waves that whip up the waters here all year round. Enthusiasts, take note! The tourist resort village along the beach enjoys a festive and sporty atmosphere.
