15 miles east of Puerto Plata, on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, the pretty village of Sosua, originally developed by Jewish refugees after World War II, has retained an authentic atmosphere since the 1950's. Sosua is divided into two localities: El Batey, the tourist part where all hotels, restaurants and night clubs are concentrated and Los Charamicos, the working class district. The Synagogue and the Jewish Museum are also worth visiting. The wonderful curved beach attracts many tourists.
