In the northwest, between Cofresi and Cabarete, stretches the Amber Coast. Its temperatures are made milder by the Atlantic wind and promises an agitated sea as well as little creeks and coral barriers. The western part of Puerto Plata, a very busy resort, is quieter than its eastern part. Towards Cabarete, the attraction for surfing has transformed the shore into a beach resort which is ideal for wind-surfing, but not so good if you just wanted to spend some time in peace.
