To enjoy 'western standard' seaside holidays, you must go to the Red Sea shores to El Gouna, Hurghada or Safaga on the Arabic coast, or to Sharm el-Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba and Taba in the Aqaba Gulf (Sinaï peninsula). Some might turn up their noses at the huge hotels and the artificial aspects of these new cities built from nothing twenty years ago. Yet the beaches are pleasant and the marine life in the Red Sea amongst the most beautiful in the world. A pair of flippers, a mask and a tuba are enough to observe clownfish, lionfish or moray eels swimming amongst the coral reefs, in a clear warm sea that remains so all year round (especially in Hurghada).
