Eritrea is divided in three climate zones: on the high plateaus of the Central region, May is the hottest month (29°C). December to February is the coldest period, with temperatures that can go below 0°C. There are two rainy
seasons : the main one, from June to start of September, and a shorter one, in March and April. Along the coasts, the period from June to August is the hottest (22 to 41°C) whereas the months of December and February are the nicest (18 to 32°C). There is a rainy season on the North coast (December to February) but rain fall in the South is much rarer. The western plains have temperatures as high as 41°C, during the warmest months (April to June), and down to 12°C in December. The rainy season is identical to the one in the Central region.
The best period to visit Eritrea is therefore from April-May until October-November.
