Tallinn is an ideal medieval city to walk around. Tallinn means "Danes town". It was an large coastal fortress which is divided in two parts : the upper part of town with its citadel, where you can overlook the Kopli peninsula, the fifteenth century Town Hall, the ancient houses and Gothic churches of the lower part of town. The architecture of the Old City is a testimony of the German influence. Tourist bus tours offer visits. For one hundred and fifty Kroons, they will drive you towards the palace dedicated to Catherine the Great, the Kadriog palace and its pompous architecture, or even the home of Peter the Great. "The Laululava" - The Tallinn Song Festival Grounds, is where the 1989 Singing Revolution took place in a country that conquered independence in 1990.
