Several folk festivals express the local culture, and not only mise en scene, for tourists. They have a rich oral tradition, that has survived centuries of foreign domination. The Estonians, also known as the "singing people", like their Baltic cousins, have a repertoire of songs that recount the seasons, the land's culture, love and myths. The Estonian Song Festival, an outdoor event, attracts more than 30,000 singers, in front of an audience of 100,000 people. It takes place every five years.
