Addis-Ababa, the capital, is located 8,000 feet high on the high plateaux. Founded in 1887, the city of Addis-Ababa is one of the biggest in Africa with 2 million inhabitants. Many curiosities in the city are worth a full day's visit: Saint-Georges Cathedral, built in 1896 in commemoration of the Ethiopian victory over the Italians, the Ethnology Museum, the Menelik Museum and its beautiful Axumit and Medieval collections, Trinity Church, Ghibbi Palace and Mercato, one of the biggest markets in Africa, are a must.
