Aksum, in the north of the country was the first capital of the Ethiopian Kingdom. Founded more than 3,000 years ago, it was the first town to be converted to Christianity. Of its glorious past, the city will unveil magnificent vestiges: you will be able to see granite storied obelisks, souvenirs of Ezana, a warrior king converted to Christianity; a church, the Sainte-Marie of Sion Cathedral, known for being the home of the Ark of the Covenant and the place where Ethiopian Emperors are crowned, and beautiful ruins of palaces and underground graves.
