This year will see the 20th year of New York's Restaurant Week, which will run until 10th August throughout the city, however, as with every year, the festival has been extended until 3 September.
The concept is simple - in celebration of the city's eclectic choice in restaurants, over 300 establishments will be offering a three-course prix-fixe formula at lunch and dinner. Prices are set at $24.07 (about £15.50) for lunch and $35.00 (about £22.50) for dinner.
Saturdays are not included in the event and only some restaurants will be offering the formula on Sundays, so diners need to check with the restaurant in question beforehand.
Restaurant Week started in 1992 and started as a one-off culinary event to welcome the Democratic National Convention (DNC) to the city. The event started off with 95 participating restaurants and seeing how successful it was, it became a recurring event and hasn't stopped growing since.
The event gives real insight into New York's culinary atmosphere, which is renowned for coming at a hefty price. But the event allows a range of locals and visitors to indulge at affordable prices. A particularly good deal if on a budget while holidaying in the city.
For a list of participating restaurants, see the NYC Restaurant Week website.
