Constructed in 1999, the Africa Queen is set on a little highland that slopes from La Somone's main road down to the beach. Apart from its reception lobby, near the street, and its common facilities (swimming pool, restaurant, bar) which are accessed through the main staircase that runs through the units, it is composed of 36 guestrooms ( and 4 separate villas located on the other side of the road ), lined up like espaliers. The complex looks like a small organised haven with sports grounds and the beach located at the end of the estate. The most demanding guests will find a beauty salon, a diving centre and numerous water sport activities.

The 36 rooms are spread out on three levels like espaliers. Apart from being located more or less near the beach, their amenities are similar and each has a small separate terrace. Just like the external part, the internal part is simply furnished : basic wooden furniture, plain floor tiles, plastic chairs? The brightness of some rooms can be slightly insufficient. In spite of such lack of originality, they are, nevertheless, equipped with basic comforts : TV, direct telephone line, mini-bar and a free safe. This is even quite an asset compared to what the Senegalese hotel industry has to offer.

The Africa Queen's catering services reflect what happens in the rest of the establishment : decent, but elementary and without fancy, although furnished with respect to the wine list. Only one restaurant provides basic conventional service, a combination of Senegalese dishes and the inevitable international dishes. It is not a high cuisine place, however it is possible to eat with satisfaction here. A good supplementary point: a very festive environment which somehow compensates the absence of surprise in the cuisine. Theme parties are regularly organised. The same goes with the bar which, without pretention, offers a pleasant atmosphere, especially when the fishermen return.
6.25/10
Compared to the busy coast of Saly resort, the little Africa Queen beach is more of a very calm enclave that combines peace with attractive surroundings, with its fishing boats rocking gently in the horizon. The beach is quite clean and its difference in height is satisfying. It is equipped with essential amenities : sunshades, deckchairs, mattresses and headrests. There are various water sports activities: water skiing, snorkelling, big game fishing centre ( theAfrica King Fishing Club ). All water activities cost extra
