Review: Aquatour Oasis Marine Hotel
The Aquatour Oasis Marine opened in 1981, but thanks to frequent renovation work it doesn't look its age. The hotel offers bungalows or standard rooms, and guests can enjoy a relaxing day by the new swimming pool or the numerous activities put on by the entertainment team. The Aquatour is well suited for all types of holiday. Located in Zarzis, it's only a very short journey from the southern part of Tunisia. The only snag for those who have come here in search of peace and quiet is that the hotel has a full capacity of 700 guests, without even counting the number of children!

Although you might hear some mutterings in German, French is the dominant language here as over 90% of the guests are from France. It should be noted that the Oasis Marine was bought by the Thomas Cook brand some 10 years ago.

The Aquatour Oasis Marine opened in the early 80's and really understands the importance of regularly renovating its buildings. After the refurbishment of its rooms between 2005 and 2007, the next area to undergo some work was the communal areas in 2008-2009 (swimming pool, reception area, terrace, bar, etc) and finally the furniture in the corridors and the decor of the rooms in 2010. The entrance doesn't look like much and the lobby resembles many other entrance halls in this hotel zone. However, the Aquatour has tried to please all tastes by offering two types of accommodation (rooms or bungalows) and two types of swimming pool: guests have the choice between a large, lively pool and a smaller and quieter one (with 3 hydro-massage beds), which is a more recent feature of the establishment. The hotel enjoys another charming asset: it has a balneotherapy centre that has a massage parlour with little huts that look out onto the sea.

The fact that the bungalows are discreet and spread out through the park makes it quite tricky to tell exactly how many rooms there are in the complex. The hotel successfully conceals some 329 accommodation units. However, you'll need some patience and a great deal of puff to get to the units at the top of the outdoor flight of steps! Several room categories are available: There are 102 double, triple and quadruple rooms and 227 family bungalows that have two or three rooms. The rooms afford a view of the sea and the bungalows look out onto the park. As far as the price is concerned, you should be jealous of neither room option, as both of these accommodation types cost the same. As for the decor, all of the units boast a simple setting with an oriental touch, as seen in the burgundy red, typically Tunisian headboards. The decor has little to offer by way of originality and the facilities are standard for a 3 star establishment: air conditioning, phone, satellite TV and a bathroom fitted with a plastic sink, a bathtub, a hair dryer and various welcome toiletries and soaps. There is a safe available at the reception and the mini bar in your room can be used upon request and for a fee.

In addition to the usual buffet of grilled food and the now trendy "show cooking" feature, the Aquatour Oasis Marine offers its guests a variety of other alternatives: a pizzeria that serves snacks from 2.00pm to 6.00pm and from 9.00pm to midnight. It also offers an à la carte restaurant with a choice of three menus: fish, meat or Tunisian. Since the only formula available is the all-inclusive one, guests are allowed one weekly visit to the à la carte restaurant. There is no haute cuisine served here, but the panoramic view over the sea makes up for that slight snag! It should be noted that several theme evenings are organised to liven up your meal: Tunisian, fishermen, Mediterranean, Italian, Oasis Marine and a Scandinavian cold buffet.

There is no street to cross to get to the beautiful stretch of fine sand and clear water that are Sangho beach. The Aquatour Oasis Marine practically has its feet in the water, and so have its guests! Its clientele can enjoy all the usual facilities for free (deckchairs, mattresses and sunshades), except for towels, for which a deposit is required. Among the water sports, only a handful are available free of charge: kayaking, sailing, windsurfing and pedal boats. Motorised activities are available for a fee.
