For shopping, although the city is not far away, you would not need to make a move: traders have occupied all corners of the hotel. For the most curious, a ride in the old city of Mombasa will not take much time but remember to visit Fort Jesus. It was built in the 17th century by the Portuguese in order to protect the harbour entrance. The architect is an Italian called Joa Batista Cairato.
Parents will be delighted to learn that the Children Adventure Center welcomes children aged from 4 to 12 years. The kid's club is open from 10.00am to 12.00am and from 2.00pm to 6.00pm: they will be kept busy with colouring, watching television, games on the beach...
At the time of our visit, the rooms did not have a mini-bar or television yet. We visited the hotel in November 2006. The equipment was to be installed in December.

Here, the atmosphere is tropical! The columns of the lobby were disguised as palm trees. Several colonial-style sofas surround the lobby. The light is diffused by imitation oil lamps. The wooden counter of the reception is protected by a makuti roof (made of dried palm leaves). Just behind, there is a beautiful fountain with several garnishments in the water.
The Bamburi Beach has two swimming pools: one has a whirlpool, while the second is adjacent to a pool for kids. The round shapes of the pools are lined with palm trees. The second swimming pool is more plesant as it is situated farther away from the meeting place of the hotel. Some deckchairs are protected by sunshades at the water's edge. Space is still somewhat limited. The whole lawn is then used by the hotel, as well as a terrace overlooking the Indian Ocean, to place more deckchairs. The latters are available free, and so are the bathing towels.

All 150 rooms are housed in 3 storey buildings. The room is spacious, each accommodating two double beds. It extends to a large balcony with two deckchairs. All the furniture inside is made of dark wood. The white walls are bare of any decoration. Air conditioning, a paying safe, room service 24/7, and a telephone line for international calls through the reception are available. There is also a hair dryer. As for the bathroom, even though it is not very big, you will have the choice between a shower or a bathtub!

The main restaurant Ziwani welcomes you for all three daily meals. Overlooking the pool, it serves food buffet-style. A wide selection of dishes is offered. Tablecloths of turquoise and orange decorate the dining room. Thematic evening parties are organised, such as fish evenings or African evenings.
The Fisherman's Cave is by far the most original restaurant of the hotel. Lunch and dinner are taken here, in a room whose ceiling is supported by huge mushrooms. For connaisseurs, the decor will make you think of a smurf's house... Some tables seem to be somewhat isolated, placed in small cave areas... You will here taste seafood and Asian specialties.
The third restaurant, the Karibu, cooks meat and fish on grill, and food is served on tables with orange and blue tablecloths. It also serves as a bar and a snack: club sandwiches, pizzas, salads... Two other bars are available: the Dhow Bar, open 24/7and the Ziwani Pool Bar located beside the swimming pool. It serves refreshments from 8.00am to 11.30pm.

No deckchairs on the beach. It is a pity that we cannot lie on the sand. The beaches in Mombasa are public.
It is impossible to swim at low tide. You have to wait for high tide. The coral reef is not very far from the shore. It is therefore preferable, for those with fragile feet, to bathe with sandals so as not to get injured on dead coral. When the sea withdraws during low tide, there are a lot of algae on the shore.
