Hotel conrad maldives hotel and spa

Review

The Conrad hotel is one of the largest hotels you will find in the Maldives. Spread over two islands linked by a bridge, the experience is very different here to that of other hotels. More animated than other spots, this isn't necessarily the best spot to come to if you are looking to top up on that Robinson Crusoe effect, however the resort looks beautiful and very stylish. It also boasts an endless variety of restaurants including the world's only under water restaurant, the Ithaa.

At Holiday Island, you will spend a quiet holiday, with all the necessary comfort. You can also enjoy ...

The Maldives consist of over a thousand islands arranged into what is commonly-known as atolls, or groups of islands, although the word 'atoll' actually denotes an island made of coral surrounded by a lagoon. Located in the south of one of the Maldives' largest atolls, Ari Atoll, the Conrad Rangali is accessible via a 25 minute seaplane transfer from Malé airport.

The Conrad Hotel is part of the Hilton Group although it looks very different to what one might expect from the brand. More colourful, more contemporary and more fun, the Conrad has something for every type of holidaymaker.

Around 200 islands of the archipelago are inhabited (recorded at the time of our visit in April 2010). Each hotel has its own island (unless you stay in the capital or Hulhule, the airport island). Among the 200 or so inhabited islands, some are inhabited by locals only - hotels and locals rarely mix unless in a work environment within a hotel structure. By this, we mean that there are no local villages which share a hotel's island and vice versa. Tourism and local life are kept separate. This means that there are no cultural activities on hotel islands, although most hotels tend to organise excursions to neighbouring local islands for the day.

Upon arrival at the airport, everything may seem very confusing, with people milling around all over the place looking lost - you will notice a row of hotel kiosks, and a row of Maldivian Air Taxi or Trans Maldivian Airline kiosks behind that. When you come out of the arrival doors, just look out for your host who should be waving a Conrad Rangali Island placard. Go with him/her. Make sure you have bags of patience with you, as the wait may last a little longer before you board the seaplane (up to two hours). Your host has to collect all the passengers heading the same way as you before asking you to check in at the Maldivian Air Taxi desk. You will then be whisked off into a van and to the opposite end of the island to the seaplane terminal. A 5 minute drive later (make the most of it to gaze over at Malé, the capital, on the neighbouring island with its quirky colourful urban skyline), you will arrive at the hotel lounge, where you will be served complimentary refreshments while you wait to board the plane. The process may seem long, especially after a ten hour flight, but it is definitely worth it! Rest-assured that you will reap the benefits sooner rather than later!

The Hilton Maldives Resort and Spa is the perfect union of friendliness and sophistication. For example, the staff walks near the pool and offers fruits and towels. If you are in the magnificent overflow pool, the person comes to satisfy your gourmet desires... In short, you will feel good here! The Rangalifinolhu has 79 Beach Villas and 21 Spa Watervillas. Both hotels have Internet access and a library. The fitness room opens onto the sea, with bay windows. A spa exists on each island. The Rangalifinolhu makes available to you: shops, laundry, television room, wellness centre, medical centre, Internet and WiFi room, and babysitting upon request. Tennis courts are available. For the numerous water sports, see our beach heading. A DJ plays music at the hotel every Saturday night.

All the villas bear witness to an aesthetic concern and refined comfort. They have a bathroom with open ceiling and hair dryer, Bulgari welcome products, a fan, air conditioning, direct telephone for international calling, mini-bar, safe, CD player (CDs available at the reception desk). Incredible and unique in Maldives : the underwater restaurant: Ithaa Undersea Restaurant ! It is located on Rangalifinolhu. Barefoot, (it is mandatory to remove your shoes), you will first go through a wooden corridor. Next, you will eat a delicate, somewhat Asian cuisine, inspired by Maldives. With champagne as the only drink : Louis Roederer ! The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner and offers menus. You can admire the fishes and sharks. At night, the sea is lit up. It's magnificent ! A unique experience ! The Koko Grill is a very pleasant Japanese place to eat, facing the lagoon. Covered with black sand, the Wine Cellar, an actual wine cellar full of unique and incomparable vintage wines, like the bottle of 1947 Mouton Rothschild for $9,000, or a bottle of 1982 Petrus Pommerol for $12,000, can also convert into a restaurant The Vilu Restaurant will let you eat a gourmet cuisine, the fusion of European and Asian cuisines, in a beautifully presented buffet format, where you will discover tastes from the different countries of the world. Each dish is recommended with a special wine... The Mandhoo Spa Restaurant will take care of you by offering an organic and dietetic cuisine, based on medical specialists' advice. You will be treated to seven restaurants in all. The clients can also choose to eat a picnic on the beach, in their villa or on a yacht... Three bars also welcome you, including the Rangali, on the edge of the swimming pool in front of the sea, decorated in sparkling colours... Guaranteed relaxation !

The beach is beautiful; the difference in height is greater on Rangalifinolhu. The lagoon between the two islands is splendid. Each bungalow has its own deckchairs and sunshades. Beach towels are loaned. The water sports club offers many activities : windsurfing, catamaran, canoeing, water skiing, wakeboarding, jet skiing, flippers, mask and snorkel, glass-bottomed boat, and big game fishing.
