With its 130 preserved hectares, the Domaine de Nianing combines forest park, ecotourism and seaside leisure. Ideal for a family stay, this true holiday village, however, attracts a clientele that is less demanding concerning comfort.

On the seashore, away from the touristy area (Saly), the hotel is near M'bour village, 57 miles away from Dakar. It is located in œ the middle of a park studded with filao trees, Australian pines and eucalyptus. The journey from the airport to the hotel takes 1 h 45 minutes.

Born out of the crazy idea of a man to recreate nature and preserve local flora and fauna, the Domaine de Nianing has become an ecological park with 130 000 trees that is home to over 150 bird species. A successful blend of ecology and tourism, this village is peculiar in that it has an animal health facility to treat and breed monkeys, crocodiles, hyenas, tortoises as well as a multitude of migratory birds. Those desiring to discover this Senegalese region will enjoy a variety of tours. An 18-hole golf course is also available in the Saly resort.

Constructed in 1968, the estate is renovated every year, during the period it is closed ( mid-August to mid-September ). It is composed of 250 huts in perfect Senegalese style, evenly scattered between the park and the ocean. The national highway cuts across the estate, thus dividing it into two areas. A big air-conditioned lobby welcomes guests before leading them to their accommodations on the 130-hectare park. Two swimming pools, two restaurants, a horse riding centre, a very big children's club, a zoo and a sports centre complete the site's facilities.

It is the site's weakness . Although the rooms are quite spacious, the comfort is Spartan. There is just minimum furniture : a bed, a closet, a bench and a table. However, large windows provide sufficient lighting, notably on the seashore and the space separating the huts allows for pleasant peace. The shower rooms are small and offer minimum equipment : shower, toilet and a washbasin. Note: the huts by the seashore have bicycles that allow you to move around the park and get to the main structures easily. However, in addition to the absence of a mini-bar, room-service, telephone ( at the reception desk ) and television, the noise from the air-conditioning is deplorable.

Meals are served buffet style, at midday and in the evening, near the swimming pool on the seashore (for lunch) or in a big open dining hall, near the park (for breakfast, lunch and dinner). The latter has a capacity of 350 place settings which allows easy access to buffets composed of Western and Senegalese dishes. Although it does not have a very rich variety of dishes, the products are fresh and often from the Domaine's crops. Theme parties are regularly organised ; wine and water are served at will. 2 bars located at both ends of the estate provide a pleasant setting at any hour of the day.

With its feet in the water, the Domaine has one of the biggest and broadest beaches in Senegal, with a length of 800 m. For those who are lucky to have accommodations close by the sea, they only need to take a few steps to lie on the well maintained light-coloured sand. As everywhere on Petite Côte, the sea tends to be unclear due to streams. The windy beach is equipped with sunshades and deckchairs spread along the beach, at the edge of the park. The swimming pool and the fitness centre are just a few metres away. Water sports activities are limited to sailing ( for a charge ), windsurfing and hand line fishing ( for a charge ).
