Fregate Island is a 32 ft² private island reserved for a handful of privileged people most of whom are top class personalities. Lodging costs for at least 5 nights are particularly high. In compensation, the hotel is of very high standard and offers outstanding services and great discretion. Apart from its luxury, Fregate has extraordinary fauna and flora with different endemic species like the magpie. To let its customers discover these riches, the hotel hires the services of a botanist guide once a week to pace up and down one of the 10 pedestrian tracks on the island. It is an opportunity to watch rare birds, endemic trees and plants and large turtles.

Lodging advice

The 2 family villas are set in a private tropical garden, specifically recommended to families with young children. The 14 other villas, situated on the summit of the cliffs, offers an exceptional panorama of the Indian Ocean.

Inaugurated in 1998, the 2 miles long and just about 1 mile large hotel island, looks like a real small village with its marina, heliport, small roads and 16 luxurious villas hanging on a hillside. The reception located in a Balinese-style building, and a hospitable personal remind us that we are in a hotel with various services offered: library, restaurant, souvenir shop, fitness room? The area?s decoration is appealing to lovers of zen atmosphere with its ancient parts specially imported from Asia, its fabric on the walls and the omnipresent wood. The swimming pool is situated below, in between the exuberant vegetation and the rocks characteristic of the Seychelles, as well as a mini-bar. A second restaurant is also available near the marina, at the ?Plantation House?. Apart from a few tennis courts, the activities proposed here are mainly centrered around the sea: diving, big game fishing, catamaran? and the eight private beaches on the island. And to fully enjoy this earthly paradise without tiring yourself out, the hotel is providing clients with small golf cars.

Fregate?s 16 villas of 2,000 ft² located in a magnificent coconut plantation face the sea. Designed from natural material, essentially carved wood, Thai silk and Egyptian cotton, they comprise two distinct parts: the room with terrace and bathroom on one side, the sitting room on the other, and between the two, a big red wooden terrace overlooking the sea. Furnished with sobriety and sophistication, in a fine ethnic style, they provide optimal comfort: satellite television with CD/DVD player, individual air-conditioning and fan, direct phone line with fax and computer, mini-bar, safe?. But we are still far from being in the splendid atmosphere of major hotels because here, even lizards are part of the decor. Each villa also has 2 showers and an external Jacuzzi with a carbet fixed for siesta.

For meals, there are two restaurants with different atmospheres. Overlooking the sea, the main Fregate House restaurant serves breakfast in the form of a buffet. Lunch and dinner are served ?based on the menu? and are of refined international cuisine. Constructed in a former farmer?s house near the marina, the second restaurant, the Plantation House serves a multitude of exotic, Creole and Indian dishes during the day, and grilled meat prepared on request. It should be noted that wine is of exceptional quality in a place like the Sechelles and the prices just as high.... You can also choose to stay in your room and request room-service which is available all around the clock. It should be noted that the hotel has 2 bars, one of which is situated on the beach.

With less than eight beaches, including the superb Anse Victorin, it is easy to feel alone in the world in Fregate. Fine sand, turquoise water, well-rounded rocks and coconut trees are part of this natural décor, tailored to meet the needs of high-end customers. As such deckchairs and beach umbrellas are set up on request, towels and fresh drinks are constantly available and a few shaded hammocks are there for relaxation. The most athletic can visit the sailing or diving club and can take off a day for big game fishing.
