The Helengeli will attract diving enthusiasts as well as vacationers who like Olympian calm and simplicity. Here, there are no flourishes, just what is necessary to enjoy the beautiful vegetation and particularly outstanding submarine beds.

Price and availability of the Hotel
Here, it is an hour ahead of Malé. Rose-Marie, your Kuoni hostess, will greet you and will explain everything you need to know. As the island is rather isolated, excursions are rather expensive. In return, daily outings for diving or picnics on the uninhabited islands of Kagi or Gaafaru are organized. You should know that Helengeli is a quiet island that will not suit clubs aficionados or those who are looking for lots of activities. Nonetheless, the hotel organizes activities 2 or 3 evenings a week such as traditional dances or barbecue night. This hotel is one of the least expensive hotels in the Maldives, at 70 dollars a night including breakfast. The majority of the guests are Swiss, but there are also Germans, Austrians and English.
Underwater diving:
The island is considered one of the most beautiful reef centres in the Maldives. Helengeli is known among very experienced divers, but its ?Ocean Pro Dive? diving centre also welcomes untrained people. The coral reef is accessible by swimming (5 minutes away). Around Helengeli, 40 dive sites, located between 5 and 60 minutes away by boat, are also accessible. The sites are known for their sharks, napoleon wrasses, manta rays and multicolored corals. Night dive is practiced. The eastern part of the island is hit by monsoons coming from the northeast every year. We advise you not to engage in diving from this side.

The Helengeli is a simple hotel that first opened in 1979 and was renovated in 2004. The most isolated of Malé North, the island is very calm. In addition, its generators are located on the other end of the island. One third of the island is untouched; the vegetation on the island is very dense. The island is not wide ? you can see the ocean from either side. The hotel has 50 rooms. The reception area is very pleasant, decorated with chairs and wooden sculptures, coated in sand, like the very nice bar and the restaurant. The hotel has a pool whose water looks midnight blue, and a pool for kids, bordered by beautiful tiles and a teak ocean-facing solarium. In the evening, it is very pleasant to rest here under the stars and to be swayed by the breeze, being protected from the lights bordering the pool. The Helengeli also has a spa, a beach volleyball court, a billiards table and a ping pong table, and for those who cannot completely detach themselves from civilisation, Internet access in the library and wi-fi in the bar. Note that the atmosphere in this hotel is particularly nice. The director of the hotel is the youngest in Maldives.

Your room will be standard category, plain and comfortable, covered with white tile. It will be approximately 215 square feet. The rooms are laid out by twos in bungalows. There is no telephone, but there is air conditioning, a fan, a mini-bar, a safe, a small terrace with two chairs and a table. You will also find bath towels. The bathrooms open onto the outside, with a shower that opens onto a small garden. The rooms numbered 1 to 20 are close to the sea but are not sheltered from the wind. In return, the rooms numbered 21 to 50 are quieter, hidden by the trees, less close to the sea but sheltered from the wind. Note that the water on this side has stones. Hammocks are arranged in front of the rooms.

The Helengeli has an open restaurant, with high wooden ceilings shaped a bit like a chapiter. From one side, you can see the sea. The floor is covered in sand. Meals are served buffet-style. The food is decent.

The north of the island has beautiful beaches, almost nonexistent in the south. The quality of the sand is decent. The water is beautiful, but nonetheless you will notice some rocks in the water. Each room comes with two deckchairs and a small plastic table. There are a few deckchairs near the rooms, sometimes very close to the water. A sandbar located on the western part allows holiday-makers to stroll alongside the ocean.
